America’s Army Training Helped Crash Victims
Geri Paloli wrote in to show us just how handy the in-game training in the America’s Army free game can be. One of the game’s players, Paxton Galvanek, used the medical training in the game to help rescue two SUV crash victims on a North Carolina highway back in November. The injuries he quickly addressed included ones causing severe bleeding, and the young man recalled from the training to apply pressure using a bandage of some kind and elevate the injury. Paxton kept his cool, did the right thing, and was able to help both victims out until more help could arrive.
The director of the game project, Colonel Casey Wardynski, lauded Paxton’s actions:
“Because of the training he received in America’s Army’s virtual classroom, Mr. Galvanek had mastered the basics of first aid and had the confidence to take appropriate action when others might do nothing. He took the initiative to assess the situation, prioritize actions and apply the correct procedures… Paxton is a true hero.”
The training courses that Paxton used are mentioned in the description of the Combat Medic role on the official game website.
