Sonic the Hedgehog now available for play on 5G iPod and newer.

In a move that totally surprised me, Sega has ported the original Sonic the Hedgehog game for play on iPod. This really shouldn’t have surprised me, as Sonic is usually one of the first franchises to hit every handheld device out there since the Game Gear. That includes the N-Gage, folks, with Sonic N.
I find myself extremely curious as to how the port went, but not curious enough to plunk down five dollars to find out. I’m sure it looks fine, but how does it move? How does it control? Sonic’s supposed to be fast, and if the LCD on the iPod, which is not known for its refresh rate (and why should it be?) can’t keep up, it would just give me motion sickness.
Sega says the game will run on a fifth-generation iPod (that’s what I’ve got) or any of the sixth-gens, which are the iPod Classic and the unattractive, squat new Nano. I wish great luck to Sega, and I hope they’ve done a good job on the port. Let’s just say the GBA port of the game was… unforgivably lackluster in the wake of the stellar Sonic Advance games.

That is a shocker given the limited control ability of an iPod. I’d give this a try though, if there’s a demo first. That or Sega sends us a demo copy
