Mugshots Versus Smugshots

The January 2008 issue of PlayStation The Official Magazine has a preview of Burnout Paradise with a sidebar specifically about camera support. The demo, now available for the PS3 and Xbox 360, includes the mugshot feature. Get taken out by someone and a camera preview box appears with a timer, giving you a moment to pose, gesture, or otherwise try and crack up the person who kicked your car into next week. When I had the chance to play online last week it was fun to come up with new faces and poses to make each other bust out laughing.
The PTOM sidebar also mentions smugshots, where you’ll be prompted to take a snapshot after you beat the record set by one of your buddies. When your pal logs back in and finds a given record has been beaten they’ll get the news complete with your happy grinning face rubbing it in. Delicious!
I’m looking forward to getting my hands on Burnout Paradise in the new year because it looks like a great game to just mess around in single-player while waiting for friends to log in and load it up.
