More Firmware Hidden Features And Fun With the Voice Changer.

The dedicated folks who like to try new things have discovered three new features of Firmware 2.10 (two of which are tied to PSP Firmware 3.80) that Sony said nothing about at its release. First, you can now Remote Play any PS1 title downloaded from the PlayStation Store. Second, you can apparently Remote Play some but not all PS1 titles you play from actual retail discs. Third, the PS3 can apparently play XviD files and some individuals are having limited success streaming them to the console.
I’ll throw a fourth feature on there: the voice changer is now part of the voice chat settings options, so you can tweak it while you chat, and it’s a ridiculous amount of fun to play online games with your friends with your voice cranked all the way up to helium-inhaling levels.
I went into the Rainbow Six Vegas with James and Twitch last night and hearing them swear like a sailor at the terrorists just for fun when they sounded like chipmunks was absolutely hysterical. I laughed so hard that I frequently had trouble shooting the bad guys. And when forced to flush out straggler terrorists by going room to room, hearing James chirp out a high-pitched version of the Robocop action theme (when Murphy is walking through the warehouse nailing bad guys left and right without taking a scratch) left me in stitches.
It didn’t help that this was Twitch’s first introduction to the game’s online play. Having him squeak out “Hey, which button throws grenades — Aaa! I’m getting shot at!” from somewhere else in the level was enough to start the laughter up all over again.
The best part? When a fourth player joined up with voice chat and stumbled across the three of us chittering away, strategizing with our faux-helium-squeaky voices. He was surprised at first but quickly understood what we’d done and burst out laughing.
