LittleBigPlanet Demo Slides Into 2008

LittleBigPlanet Top Hat

Oh I clearly remember it, too. Sony said that we’d see a LittleBigPlanet demo in Fall 2007 and now it’s not going to appear in this calendar year. I’d have to agree with Brian Crecente at Kotaku that it would really have been a sweet holiday surprise given how they’ve said nothing about this demo in quite a long time.

It’s also important to note that Sony isn’t even talking about what quarter the game will show up in. It’s just good old nebulous 2008 for now. Look, we know release dates are subject to change, but even Konami is saying we’ll see Metal Gear Solid 4 in second quarter of 2008.

Even though a PR manager has said he had played 30 of the 50 levels they want to ship in the game and that it’s a lot of fun, not having a demo out this fall means that if they put the demo out in Q1, they can release the game in Q2. If they put the demo out in Q2, the game can show up in bloody Q3! Oh the humanity!

Anyway, if the game blows away the press the way it already has in limited showings then I don’t think we have much to worry about. Perhaps the developer is getting free rein from Sony to really polish this up and get the whole online infrastructure locked down super-tight.

Or maybe it’s just like any other software project: You can have it on time, on budget, and bug free. Pick two.
