EVE Trinity Upgrader Destroys Windows XP

Submitted by on December 6, 2007 – 2:00 pmNo Comment

EVE OnlineFolks might be upgrading to the new EVE Trinity to get a beautiful new view of the destruction of their enemies, but the upgrader is instead destroying Windows XP installations by rendering them unbootable. It’s erasing the boot.ini in the root directory of Windows XP when the game is installed on the same drive Windows is installed on. Vista users aren’t affected by this problem and XP users who haven’t upgraded yet can uninstall the pre-Trinity version of the game and then use the full installer on XP to get the new version of the game safely.

So if you have XP and you’ve upgraded, don’t turn out the lights! I mean, don’t turn off your computer until they figure out a patch. The thread on the forum seems to have some solutions but look for CCP to lead the way on an official one. This is Windows we’re talking about.

Do I even have to say how bad it is to have their technicians miss something this fundamental on a PC-only title that is only digitially distributed to Windows users?
