EVE Online Hits 200k, Trinity Launching Dec 5th.
CCP has announced that EVE Online has reached 200,000 subscribers and the next expansion, EVE Online: Trinity, will launch on December 5th. They’ve also set another simultaneous user record for the single-server-cluster MMO with 37,729 players logged in at once on November 26th.
This fifth expansion is free to existing subscribers and will feature a new graphics engine and a corresponding re-skin of all ships and stations. For a look at what the differences will be, check out their promotional microsite here.
The New York Times recently took an updated look at EVE with the new expansion announcement as a backdrop and says that the game is now, four years in, hitting its stride. Its full-time economist has issued his first quarterly report noting, interestingly enough, that the economy is not inflating as nearly every MMO economy is expected to do.
