Early UT3 Reviews Strangely Positive
I’ve been scoping out the early Unreal Tournament 3 reviews on the intertube and they’re unusually positive overall. GameZone.com gave the game an 8.8 overall which definitely means something, considering the PC version was granted only an 8.5. That .3 means everything to me, baby.
From Gamezone.com: From gorgeous character models to smooth animations, the graphics are among the best I have seen on the PlayStation 3 to date.
Gamedaily.com (the better of the two) goes a bit deeper and gives UT3 a 9.0. They describe the SIXAXIS controls as well as the truncated 16-player max servers.
From Gamedaily.com: One thing to note about the vehicular action — you can control movement of these vehicles using the SIXAXIS tilting function if you wish. It’s manageable, but in the heat of combat, you may prefer analog movement instead….Unreal Tournament continues to live up to its name, and part three on the PS3 is just as thrilling as its PC counterpart. Never mind its shortened multiplayer count and lack of extra modes — there’s enough here to keep you fragging through the holidays.
I honestly would give more points off for the 16 player servers, unless of course they’ve heard that the PC patch which upped the player count to 32 was hitting the PS3 as well. Epic might have wanted to just get the game on the shelves for Christmas and finish up the patch later. It may stay at 16 players, for all I know. That’s really the only thing making me a little skeptical of whether I should cancel my pre-order.
I’ve tossed that question over to the Epic forums, we’ll see if anything comes of it. What do you think? If Warhawk can boast 32 players, will UT3?
