Dragon Quest Swords gets a North American release date, added features.

Square-Enix today is saying that wrecking ball of Japanese gaming franchises, Dragon Quest, will be making a stop on Wii in North America on February 28th, 2008. Here in the west, when they release a Dragon Quest game, they’re not required to do it on a holiday or weekend due to the government’s concern that the entire country just might grind to a halt. Not too much fear of that here, since the series is even more irrelevant today than it was twenty years ago (who among us didn’t get their copy free with Nintendo Power?) and a spinoff is likely to drop like so much turd into a pool of mediocre sales.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of the games, but even I can’t see myself picking up a watered-down light-gun spinoff of long-running Dragon Quest.

I found mention of new features for the North American release interesting, though.
