Crave Online Clambakes With Ubisoft on Assassin’s Creed

20071203012641_creed_interview_header.JPGThe Ubisoft development team talked some shop with the pleasant pop culture site: Crave Online recently on their latest and greatest holiday title: Assassin’s Creed.

While the interview did not delve into how the title has received mixed bag of review scores, it did shed some infinitesimal light on talks of future iterations, including multiplayer modes of ‘Creed. Right now I’m an hour or so away from completing the main missions and while your actions are quite cyclical, as others have discovered, I do enjoy everything else about this gorgeous looking game.

When asked about the lack of co-op or multiplayer mode, Ubisoft responded:

“One of the original ideas was to bring a multiplayer aspect to Assassin‚Äôs Creed, whether that be co-op or competitive was still in discussion but we wanted to really focus on making a great game without over committing. We were already pushing ourselves and proposing a very ambitious title to begin with. So perhaps in a future iteration there may be some multiplayer inclusion, but you‚Äôll have to wait and see.”

While I feel more human to human contact in a game can sometimes up the replayability, it isn’t necessarily a good thing to be in every single title out there. Could co-op or multiplayer work in Assassin’s Creed? Maybe, but if it did possess those features, I’d probably be inclined to show it more love than the single player mode that just howls out for some variety. I mean the potential is there, but really…what happened?

I just started playing a rental of AC on the PS3 last night. I need to spend some more time with it before I can even write some impressions down.

As a big fan of the Grand Theft Auto series the semi-open side-questing options I’ve heard about are of great interest to me.

The game is visually amazing and the free-running movement engine and environments continuously impress. The graphical style used in portraying the ancient world seem to give a very visually sharp rendition of things.

So far I’m not yet used to the controls and I find myself kind of oversteering, occasionally sending Alta’ir plummeting to his death on when a much more nuanced use of the controls will let him zip along easily.

The more you progress through the game the more skills you aquire, like the ability to grab ledges as you fall. I can’t seem to put it down, yet I find the repetition to be a nuisance.
