Crash much? Well, not really, but once is enough for me.
I was commenting to a friend today about how often I see mention online of people saying they “never play their Wii” now or that they have “nothing to play” on the system, to which I can only respond, “really?” That’s fine, I won’t argue with those who don’t see anything they want to play available for the Wii, even though I play mine nearly every day. Everyone has different tastes. For example, someone asked me earlier this week while I was setting up the system for my brother-in-law (he got one for Christmas, you see) what the system is like and whether it’s worth getting. I didn’t say “yes, get one” as you might expect. I asked what kind of games he likes to play, and he said first-person shooters and racing games. I recommended an Xbox 360 instead, because while those genres do appear on Wii, they are not well represented. The latter, in fact, is a genre I personally miss.
Speaking of the Xbox 360, my understanding is that the console is pretty unreliable, with more than a light amount of software crashes on the stack of major hardware issues it has faced. No software is crashproof of course, but I was still surprised when I went to boot my new copy of Zack & Wiki (a gift I got, yay) and the system locked up for the first time since I was dealing with the web browser beta.
Paul recently spoke to me about a crash he experienced in Ratchet & Clank on the PS3. Thankfully, I’ve found Metroid Prime 3 far more stable than the first public build of Metroid Prime… I recall avoiding elevators in that one on more than one occasion when I hadn’t saved in a while. If you’ve got a current-gen console, how often have you encounted a crash? Anything particularly catastrophic?
