Class action suit stomps up to Activision’s door over GHIII Wii audio problem.
Where do I sign up? Some of the many who are pretty irritated over the discrepancy between the advertised audio compared to the actual audio in the Wii edition of Guitar Hero III are banding together for a class action lawsuit against publisher Activision. Everyone… code faster.
I’m often annoyed by excessive litigation, but I found myself pretty angry when the issue presented itself and all we got from Activision was PR doublespeak about how they’re going to fix it, but not exactly when. Joe made an excellent point in our last podcast, pointing out that by the time the patch is out, we won’t be playing the game anymore. He’s right, you know. By then I’ll either be using my refund to buy Rock Band for Wii (get on that now, MTV, you can win a lot of converts in the wake of this crap) or putting the money toward another game that works properly.
The suit claims that Activision has not rectified the problem for “any purchaser” of Guitar Hero III, nor has it taken steps to point out the issue to future purchasers. By noting that the game is still on store shelves this holiday, the suit alleges that Activision is continuing to engage in deceptive practices.
Let this be a lesson to us all, though. Don’t buy games on launch day. Wait for all the professionals to not notice the major issue and give the game a 9, first.
