Umbrella Chronicles now in stores, reasonable scores
Now that Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles has lumbered onto shelves, hungry for brains… or whatever those T-Virus nasties eat… I’m curious how it is. This is one of those games I was very excited about when they first started talking about it. You see, back then, we were told it would be a Resident Evil 4-style remake of important sections of the first four Resident Evil games (that is to say, starting with 0 and ending with 3). Add in the IR pointer functionality they plugged into the Wii Edition or RE4, and you’ve got a home run. It wasn’t long after that when we found out they had decided that winning formula would be too much for the Wii gamer (that’s right, insult us) and instead, we were getting a light gun shooter.
Combined with the revelation that no Wii version of RE5 was planned, this looked like Capcom was giving us the shaft.
The 80ish reviews the game is getting around prestigious review sites are encouraging. Light gun games are good pick-up-and-play fun, and the Resident Evil franchise has a great story behind it, and it looks like they’ve done right by us with this game.
Now if only GamePro hadn’t rubbed some salt in our wounds with the words, It’s the perfect way to prepare yourself for the upcoming “Resident Evil 5.”
