Tri-Crescendo involved in Fragile now, making it slightly more Kaitos-licious.
Back when I was playing games on the Gamecube, I heartily enjoyed a Namco J-RPG called Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean. It was one of the best looking games on the platform, and those who gave it a fair shake, looking past what appeared to be a card game, found a surprisingly deep RPG where the cards were only the delivery item for standard RPG concepts. In short, by the time I was done with the game, its battle system held the title of “best battle system in an RPG” in my mind, a title that I have yet to see taken.
Baten Kaitos was built for Namco by Monolith Soft and Tri-Crescendo. Monolith Soft has since landed in Nintendo’s pocket (where they’re working on Disaster: Day of Crisis, which looks less interesting every time I see it, which is almost never) and Tri-Crescendo went on to work on Trusty Bell or Eternal Sonata (depending on which end of the Pacific Ocean you live on) for the Xbox 360. Now, if an article in Famitsu about Namco’s new Wii-exclusive RPG Fragile is to be believed, Tri-Crescendo is developing the game.
The Wiire has gleaned some new information from the article, so pop along to pick that up if you’d like. They’ve even got a scan of a screenshot from the magazine. As you might imagine, it’s not pretty.
