So PS3 Firmware 2.00 Will Be A Big Deal?

After almost-monthly firmware updates that have trickled in new features to the PS3 it’s hard to guess at what might be headed our way with the magic number 2.00 firmware. The 1.93 firmware was released last, and 1.94 is available only on the Ratchet & Clank Future disc to enable Dual Shock 3 rumble support for that game, so why wouldn’t the next update keep being 1.9x unless it was something important?
PS3Fanboy seems to be fanning the flames of rumors by saying they know what’s in 2.00 but can’t reveal it yet, no doubt due to NDA. In their news review for last week they noted that readers would get the first official details on the 2.00 firmware later this week. I don’t want to get my hopes up that it’s anything major, but with teasers like that one does wonder.
It also seems to confirm that 2.00 will be out this week. Why? I don’t think Sony has ever really said anything about a firmware release until after it’s out in the wild.
What do I think will be in the firmware? Maybe the Home open beta will start. Maybe we’ll see something related to the PlayStation Eye. Maybe the rumors of boring playlist enhancements are true. Given how little Sony says about their firmware releases, if they’re engaging the press over it maybe it is something interesting after all.
