Romantics suing Activision over GH Encore: Rocks the 80s soundalike.
Apparently, the soundalike of What I Like About You that Activision had recorded for Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s (which I played for the first time tonight, coincidentally) sounds too much like the original, and The Romantics aren’t ready to snuggle over it.
You heard that right. Activision recorded the cover under permission from the band’s attorneys…
But they say by creating an imitation so much like the Romantics’ original, the California-based company infringed on the group’s rights to its own likeness.
Sounds to me like they said Activision couldn’t use the original and had to make a cover, and now they’re upset that they didn’t agree to let Activision use the original. It all comes down to money, folks. They can’t be content to offer the original in the next Guitar Hero game, now that GHIII has made Activision all this money…
