Ones to Watch for Wii in November

A look at the most anticipated titles coming to Nintendo Wii in November, 2007.

When a Mario platformer appears, it is an event. Ever since Super Mario Bros came to the NES, whether you’ve liked them or not, it is inarguable that every Mario platformer has innovated the platform genre in a way that, for better or worse, set a new standard. November will mark the release of Super Mario Galaxy for Nintendo Wii, perhaps the biggest title for the platform this year, and one which is certain to sell extremely well. What do you put up against Super Mario Galaxy? You’ll be surprised at the guns developers are bringing to bear this month as they crowd to be a hot new game on Black Friday.

November 6th brings Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, a sequel to Path of Radiance from the Gamecube days. This is a strategy game which uses nothing new on the Wii Remote despite the fact that the developer is working with a first party IP and has access to a controller that has IR pointing capability. Yes, that’s right, in the traditional genre that may have the absolute most to gain from pointing controls, a second party game is not even using it. Honestly, even Brawl is offering Wii Remote control when it barely seems possible. Add to this the fact that the game does not seem to offer any improvements or innovations over its predecessor, and you’ve got a recipe for a game that’s really best ignored unless you’re a diehard fan of the Cube game. That said, these games have a huge following for their tight turn-based gameplay and excellent storytelling, so if this is your genre, it might be worth considering to look past its shortcomings in the presentation department. This is a genre I like… but like Pok?

“Motion-controller lightsaber battles in a compilation of six critically acclaimed games with lots of bonuses?”

It’s actually just two games. Lego Star Wars spanned Episodes 1-3 while Lego Star Wars II covered Episodes 4-6.

It’s still gonna be a fun game.
