No Co-op? No Vehicles? No Thanks.

It's a long walk.I shed a tear today while reading an article on Call of Duty 4 over at IGN. According to their review, the game has shipped without any sort of co-op multiplayer. Another review over at Gametrailers.com discussed the lack of vehicles as a drawback, yet still gives it a 9+ score. Overall, reviewers are raving about the game, hardly taking points off for the lack of road rage or campaign co-op.

More than the lack of vehicles, I’m horribly disappointed that the game has decided to launch without any co-op multiplayer. If you didn’t already know, I’m a huge fan of the gametype and coincidentally it just happens to be the only way I’ve played Halo 3 online. I know I’m not alone with this sentiment, it’s really one of the few ways to avoid the fools online. There are people out there who will pick up COD4 expecting a cooperative game mode to be included. it’s practically an industry standard right now.

If I were reviewing it, I’d have to take a full point off due to the lack of cooperative multiplayer in the campaign. A lack of vehicles is almost rediculous as well, especially considering how many of the videos highlight vehicular combat. It seems there’s simply too much varied content on my 360 and PS3 for me to be limited to playing on foot and alone in COD4. Even so, I’ll still let my rental be the judge.

Until that shows up in the mail, that’s my Jeep running your ass over.

It looks like Infinity Ward’s PS3 engine that runs this game is giving the absolute most love to the PS3 from a cross-platform developer. It brings a tear to my eye and yep, I’ll rent this puppy, too.

One more thing. When I read that the game didn’t have any co-op mode I immediately felt that I already had a very good classical shooter that I haven’t played enough online to give a fair shake — something I hope to change soon: Resistance: Fall of Man.

Couple that with the tiny amount of time I’ve given Warhawk since there’s so much to play and I’m really tight on time to do the playing, and I have a full slate of shooters to enjoy.

Incidentally, the biggest strike against Resistance: Fall of Man is that you can’t play it in co-op mode online, only offline.

Playing Rainbow Six Vegas co-op online is still fun. You still gotta take out the bad guys carefully even if you know the level layout.

I was really looking forward to that support in COD4. I, too, love co-op play modes and lacking that is just disgusting. I can live without vehicles, although as a combat simulator you think that would be a staple. But w/o co-op, I mean I think we’re taking the “Army of One” a little to seriously here. :-p
