New Nvidia 8800GT Cards Have Power and Performance For Great Price

new8800gt.jpgSo I have been sitting on the fence in regards to a video card upgrade. I have been waiting for the next Nvidia cards that would come out after the 8800GTX and 8800GTS cards. As has been proven in the past, Nvidia always seems to release a couple of hastily developed cards in the first batch and then puts out a new set a few months later that are nearly as powerful, while being much more efficient and cheaper. That has finally become a reality with the 8800GT cards.

The Nvidia Geforce 8800GT cards will come in two varieties: the 256MB version and the 512MB version. Right now, I am looking at the 512MB version as some of the early benchmarks show it pulling near 30fps in Crysis on high detail settings at 1920×1200. Even better is the fact that Newegg and ZipZoomFly have been listing variants of this card from $260-300.

The cards are outperforming the 8800GTS 640MB cards in many benchmarks, which has some of these owners in uproar over the performance issue. The only words of comfort I can give them is that being a PC gamer sometimes means having hardware that is obsolete several minutes after you buy it. I had the same issue when I bought my AMD motherboard as the AM2 sockets came out two months after I upgraded.

Finally from the Crytek, developers of Crysis, are stating that the 8800GT card is the best card to run Crysis with. That is a bold statement when you consider that the card is selling at a $250 start point. The price makes it easy to add one card now and then adding another six months down the line to add 35% more video processing power for dirt cheap. About the only problem you have with the card is finding one. Right now, every online and brick and mortar shop is out of the cards. I have Newegg set to auto notify so I can get one the moment they are available. You should be doing the same if you want to play with the best looking graphics for a bargain basement price.
