The show started as always with what games we are playing. Paul had The Simpsons, Ratchet and Clank Future and Lego Start Wars: The Complete Collection on the PS3 while adding some time for Disagea: Afternoon of Darkness on the PSP. Joe spent time with Soldier of Fortune: Payback and Crysis on the PC, while also getting into Rock Band and Mass Effect on the 360. James was enjoying Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune on the PS3 and put some time into Final Fantasy Tactics on the PSP. Stephen was still working on Guitar Hero III for the Wii and in the process of wrapping up Metroid Prime: Hunters on the DS.

We opened the topics tonight with a focus on the Games for Windows/Live for Windows initiative with some discussion about Gears of War and Viva Pinata, but it all ended up as a way for Joe to vent about the frustrations over trying to install and play Kane and Lynch: Dead Men. It was crashing at the start of each mission, would give him Virutal C++ errors and all in all was just messing up the whole Live for Windows vibe that was created several months ago. All agree that the problem is that while the Games for Windows initiative has been a solid success, the Live for Windows team has dropped the ball and left PC gamers with a mess of a product. Microsoft needs to fix the issues with its partners and its own software to get PC gamers on board.

We moved over to the PS3 and looked at how Gabe Newell, the PS3′s biggest fan, subbed out the development of the Orange Box on PS3 to an unnamed EA development house. Paul let us know that parts of Episode II almost look unplayable at times, while James and Joe both think that PS3 fans will ignore the game due to all the venom that Gabe Newell has spit at the PS3 console. One has to wonder why EA bothered with it, until Paul points out that EA looks to market across as many platforms as possible.

Stephen brought up and intriguing topic of Ubisoft attempting to bring the Unreal Engine 3.0 to the Wii. We all tried to figure out copyright law during the show to see if there would be a way for Ubisoft to market the new scaled down engine. Most likely, there will be a way to get it done with Epic, but we still have no idea on a time frame or what the product will be at this time.

Paul found another game that has been masquerading as a 720p game. This time it is Call of Duty 4, and all the writers discuss what quantifies HD. James figures it is not a huge issue, because the game looks great as it is, while Paul and Joe think that it has more to do with the arguement of marketing the game as something that it is not. You can label it HD, but just not 720p HD.

Some of our news this week included:
Unreal Tournament 3 will probably make it out to consumers before Christmas on the PS3. January will bring Burnout Paradise to the PS3 and 360, but the PS3 is the lead platform this time around. The Romantics are suing Activision and Neversoft because the band that did the cover of their song sounded too much like them. Capcom decided to do some winter cleaning and marked down a ton of stuff on their online store by 15%. Lastly, Gametap has Psychonauts as a free download for the rest of the year.
