Aeropodcast #14: November Rain of Games Edition

Well readers, we are back after a week off. Seems that we all had some sort of weird problem come up that delayed us from getting to the podcast last week, but we came back with a solid show this week, that is large in content while still fitting into a svelt forty-five minute timeframe. We also wanted to say that we are really appreciative of all the listeners that we have brought to the podcast. We also want to remind everyone that we are always looking for tips, requests, trivia and news for the podcast, so if you have any, send it to tips@aeropause.com. Also, make sure to review us on iTunes, and Digg the podcast to move us up the ladder. We want to challenge CAGCast someday for Digg Podcast supremacy.

Our discussion this week started off with us wondering if games like Portal or Call of Duty 4, which have short single player modes, could be game of the year contenders. We all seem to agree that it should not matter, but Stephen did point out that the two things that are in every Portal sentence are how great it is and how short it is. We also talked about the PS3 and the new 40GB SKU. The new numbers show the new SKU selling quite well, but we still have to wonder whether it will reach successful numbers or flounder in 2008. We also referenced Paul’s PS3 birthday article, which is a great read.
On the news front, we talked about God of War III being announced, which was no real surprise. It is interesting that the two main forces behind the God of War franchise will not be on board for the third game. Mark Rein has been hoping all over the Internet talking to anyone that will listen about how great the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 will play. All agree that the guy is just trying to make the game successful on all platforms, but Joe just thinks that his hype is more along the lines of someone trying to sell something that is probably not all that good. Then we looked at an ebay auction that had a gentleman selling about every console that has been created in a massive auction that was at about $9K at the time of the podcast. Sheer insanity indeed.
In our Reader request section, Sifer2400 asked about our thoughts on Timeshift. Paul and Stephen had not really tried the game yet, but Joe played through the Timeshift demo on the PC and seemed to think it was okay, but that it had been done before and in better style in the Prince of Persia series. Joe did comment on how the game had great graphics, including the rain effects, and that the game had a great utilitarian feel, but it just seemed to be average at best. Also we have our trivia question that comes with two prizes this week. First is Half-Life 2 courtesy of Joe and his Orange Box purchase, and a Mutant Storm Xbox Live Game code, courtesy of the folks at Microsoft and Gamerscore Blog.
