360 Outsells PS3 in Japan

Submitted by on November 9, 2007 – 10:18 am5 Comments

Fly to Xbox Live, little piggy! FLY! FLY!Thanks to a very exclusive Ace Combat 6, the Xbox 360 narrowly outsold the PS3 in Japan last week. While the Xbox 360 outselling unshelved, lead-painted toys in Japan would be surprising to me, it’s even more surprising to see how poorly all three home consoles are doing in the region. Japan seems to be all about the handhelds right now.

The DS Lite sold 78,000 units with the PSP right behind at 59,000. The Wii came in at a distant 3rd with 37,000 sold units with the 360 and PS3 scraping the bottom of the barrel at 17000 units each. I think the sub $170 price tag of these handhelds combined with the plethora of excellent content is pushing the fanbase in this direction.

I just bought my rented copy of Final Fantasy Tactics on my PSP, I couldn’t come to grips with mailing it back. While I flip from PS3 to 360 for gaming from one day to another, I’m always finishing off the evening with a good hour of that game. It’s absolutely fantastic and I’m glad that I get to enjoy it for the first time with this extra content.

Absolutely hysterically good picture. The whole mood of the pig is just hilarious. The lead-painted toys is a keeper, too.

I wonder WHY portables are doing better – and yes, excellent pic!

Because there’s more content on portables than next-gen. I’ve was heavily considering buying a PSP or DS instead of a PS3 since there was a rumor going around that I was going to get the chance to do some extensive travel for my work.

The portables have a lot of really great games to play and heck with at most $170 to get started there’s no fighting for the TV.

That’s exactly right. The libraries on these handhelds are very strong. When I think about what system I would like to get next, hands down, it’s a PSP.
