For the couple dozen people out there that actually use Vista on a regular basis, Adam Kenney has created a great new sidebar gadget that will help you keep track of your Xbox Friends wherever you are. The gadget allows you to fill in a list of users that you are interested in tracking. After you populate the list, it will give you their Live status, updated every 10 minutes.

Adam also built in functionality to allow drilling in on each user to find out their Gamerscore, what they are doing right now and the last five games they have played. Clicking on any of the games will automatically take you to the Xbox Live comparison screen to compare achievements between you and the user that you clicked on.

The gadget was programmed in Silverlight, Microsoft’s Flash-like tool and you will need to install the Silverlight player before using the gadget. I tried the gadget on my work laptop that has a Vista Ultimate install and the gadget works great. Look for Xbox Live Friends Watch in the Gadget Gallery, or get it from Adam Kenney’s website. Here is a link to the Silverlight site to get the front end for the tool.
