Virtual Console releases illustrate Nintendo webmaster’s disorganized scramble.
Every Monday, like clockwork, Nintendo releases two or more old games onto the Wii Shop Channel for purchase and play on the Wii Virtual Console. Usually, it’s three. Sometimes it’s even more, such as when Nintendo released the 100th game for the Virtual Console this past June. This is something you could practically set your watch by, as they always appear at 9am pacific time, 12pm eastern time. In short, Nintendo is doing right by their customers with the Virtual Console releases, and it makes good business sense with all the money they make off them.
Nintendo also throws down a press release letting everyone know what’s there, and this is often on time as well, though it has been known to show up much later in the day on rare occasions. And then there’s the websites and email notifications. Maybe they need a bigger staff, or someone with a watch in that office, because the Virtual Console release notifications that Nintendo emails out are getting later every week. This is in line with the updates on the wii.nintendo.com Virtual Console site, which are often nearly a week late. Today, which was a Virtual Console release day, I received a Virtual Console release notification email. Excited that Nintendo had finally ironed out this issue, I opened it up.
It’s last week’s releases.
