Preorder This Cancelled MMO Today!
It’s been a couple of days since the news hit that Gods and Heroes was put on indefinite hold and comments made by Perpetual — the developer — indicate it’s probably not coming back. That still isn’t keeping both the EBs and Gamestops I visited yesterday from proudly displaying its preorder box on store shelves. Preorder this cancelled MMO today! Just $5 down!
I was lucky enough to chat with someone who’s worked on a number of MMOs about a week ago who had also happened to work at Perpetual in the past. He mentioned that the engine they’re using for Star Trek Online — the other MMO property that Perpetual will be refocusing their attention on — was a really good one. This makes me think the other area they’re focusing on — turning out some middleware for other MMO developers to use — might pan out.
Good luck, Perpetual! Everyone who ever enjoyed Star Trek — and that’s a big audience — could really enjoy an accessible and well-crafted MMO in the property. It could be just what the doctor ordered to attract everyone who’s tired of elves, orcs, swords, and sorcery.
And to those EB and Gamestop managers out there, go ahead and take down those Gods and Heroes boxes. It’s not like you don’t have anything else to put up in its place, even if it’s just promotional material. Anything’s better than inadvertently scamming poor PC gamers out of their money.
