Map and Mission Editing in Next PSP Syphon Filter
It’s nice to see the PSP-2000 getting traction, as our guest on podcast #11 James King of TheWiire demonstrated by recently buying one. It’s also nice to see people picking up the system and noticing the extensive library of great games it has available — also demonstrated by James’ inability to pry it out of his wife’s hands. The two Syphon Filter games — Dark Mirror and Logan’s Shadow — are both prime examples of great PSP content, and the franchise is getting ready to expand on the strengths of its online game.
We know that Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow is getting great press, but a lesser-known feature of the game is a demo of what may be an online-only version of Logan Shadow’s online multiplayer game called Syphon Filter: Combat Ops. This new game will apparently include a full-featured map and mission editor. Pocketgamer took it for a spin and it sounds like good stuff. There’s no release date or official feature set yet from Sony.
That said, balanced levels aren’t easy to come by, and Joe Public’s level editing skills might not be the most fun way to rank up on the online leaderboards.
By the way the picture shown is of one of my favorite moves I would rarely be lucky enough to pull off in Dark Mirror. I would so often get blasted to hamburger by the leveled-up players that when I could catch one unawares, run up behind him, and kick him over an edge to his death it was probably the sweetest online gaming moment ever.
