I had a chance to talk to Katie Shanahan, of LumiSource, for a few moments about their product, the Boomchair. Many of you have seen these chairs at your retailers, but I was unaware about their market strategy or the amount of chairs that they actually offered. The chair pictured above is one of their basic models. The chairs have speakers placed inside them that give your games more feeling by conveying the sound waves throughout the body.

The primary chair from them is a wireless chair, which eliminates all wire clutter that would normally run from the chair to your console. It has a curved base which allows for you to rock while you are playing. The chair is very comfortable and they flex at the main curve so they can fold forward for storage under a bed or closet. It also has some funky lights in the front, which I was told, serve no purpose but to have something to distract people that walk in the room.

Strangely, you can only get the wireless unit at Best Buy. Bascially, they only sell certain SKUs to certain stores. The first chair pictured at the top of this article is only available from Circuit City, whereas the one on the right above is available at Linens and Things. The one on the left is the wireless unit which is at Best Buy. The cost for each unit can range from $75-140, depending on the features and type.

I’d go for it if it had two things. 1. if it was pretty well cushioned and 2. if it had a base that would sit it in place and make it NOT rock at all. I don’t want a rocking chair. I need to sit still while I game, and I need back support when I sit on my floor, and the $17 one-piece floor seat I bought from Target recently does the trick. The downside? The padding is pretty thin, requiring a throw pillow so I don’t feel the metal ring in the base when I sit on it.
