Live For Windows v1.2 is Coming…With Game Support

Microsoft has announced a new update coming to Live for Windows in November of 2007. The release version will be 1.2. Several new features will be coming with this release. One is the fact that games will now be joinable, similar to Live on the 360. This should help with getting into games with people that are playing similar games.
But the bigger thing is that more games will be coming and be supported with the new release. Coming this Fall, you will be able to play the following games via Live for Windows, complete with achievements and multiplayer when available in the game. The games are:
The Club (Sega)
Kane and Lynch: Dead Men (Eidos)
Universe at War: Earth Assault (Sega)
Gears of War (Epic/Microsoft Games Studios)
Viva Pinata (Microsoft Games Studios)
The only thing that was missing from this announcement was having Halo 2 for Vista and Shadowrun remove the stupid OS check so we could play these games as well on XP. But maybe that will be in v1.3 shortly thereafter. As I have said in our podcasts, it will take some time, but Live for Windows could be as great as it is on the 360 if it is allowed time to grow. Cost may still be an issue, but to get people to pay, there has to be full support in all titles at some point. This is a good start.
