I really liked last year’s DBZ game, Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit 2. It felt like the franchise had finally achieved some serious attention with a game that was both deep and fun.

Yeah, I breezed through the Hellgate: London EULA in my rush to play the beta, but apparently, not everyone did. Bluesnews.com picked out this little snippet:

3. Consent to Use of Data. You agree that EA, its affiliates, and each Related Party may collect, use, store and transmit technical and related information that identifies your computer, including without limitation your Internet Protocol address, operating system, application software and peripheral hardware, that may be gathered periodically to facilitate the provision of software updates, dynamically served content, product support and other services to you, including online play. EA and/or the Related Parties may also use this information in the aggregate and, in a form which does not personally identify you, to improve our products and services and we may share that aggregate data with our third party service providers.

Why I hate EA, reason #239.

Can I just install a game without EA raping my personal information, like what programs and hardware I have installed, without my permission? At least Valve asks before gathering all your hardware and software info for their surveys.

It’s bad enough that I have to see ads for Dark Horse Comics and Mythos plastered all over the place because of bundled in-game adware… but I have to put up with this garbage as well.

  • They can have my system stats, for comic effect anyway. The thing plays pretty sluggishly for me at 1024×768 on my old rig.

I won’t be buying this without a revamp of my PC.

Adware is a term commonly reserved for viruses and such. In-game ads, well, I think we might be able to lose those if you subscribe.

The demo isn’t bad, really, but it does feel like more of the same. How many times can I swing a sword at something.

  • Willey says:

ACK! Thanks for the warning aero. I hadn’t installed the demo yet, but I was planning on it. No more. Sorry EA, you just lost yourself a customer who will not even buy the full game, for fear this kind of shit will be on the retail release.
