Gridrunner’s Great Leap Forward

Jeff Minter’s working on a title called Gridrunner++ for the Xbox Live Arcade, which is nice, but it immediately activated a gaming memory for me. Back in 1983 I had the game Gridrunner on a cartridge for the Commodore 64, and it was pretty fun to play. I’ll also admit it came out 25 years ago in ’82, in case you remember it and aren’t feeling old enough.
A quick play of the PC demo of the Gridrunner++ (also available on Mac) shows it to clearly be a spiritual successor of the game. The sad thing is, as of this writing nobody on the Kotaku post about the game has mentioned its long and ancient history. Now, though, you know. And knowing is half the battle.
