Crysis Single Player Demo Impressions
About a month ago, Crytek and EA released a much sought after multiplayer demo for the upcoming PC exclusive game, Crysis. It was still a bit rough and had some texture loading issues on some lower end machines. Now a more polished single player demo has come out and seems to fix a lot of the problems that were present in the multiplayer version from a month ago. You also get a better explanation of the story and what is happening.
The demo starts with you on a plane talking to your other squad mates. I was unaware that you actually worked with a squad, but you have four teammates, including your squad leader. The US government has received a distress signal from a research outpost on a remote island in the Pacific Ocean. The North Korean army has infiltrated the island and is trying to find some new discovery that the research team was working on.
You parachute out of the military cargo plane, plummeting down to Earth with your squad mates, when you are buzzed by some sort of strange craft in the air. No one knows what it is, but it messes up the landing, as your team is scattered all over the island. You need to regroup and help find your team as your squad leader is hemmed in and cannot get out of his location. Along the way, something happens, and you find out that you are not alone with the North Koreans. Something else is in the forest, and it is not friendly.
For anyone wondering, Crysis does look amazing, but the story is a lot stronger than I thought. I was always on the fence about this title, but now seeing the opening movie and getting some tidbits along the way in the demo, I am really hooked into the story and want to know more.
