CCP Putting EVE Online DirectX 10 On Back Burner
While discussing how their new Atlanta office here in the US is split between their World of Darkness MMO developers and a group of EVE Online developers dedicated to art asset work, CCP North American president Mike Tinney mentioned that the infrastructure work on EVE Online will continue to be done in Iceland. He also noted that the previous plans to build up DirectX 10 support in the client is being put on the back burner so resources can be spent on optimizing DirectX 9.
I’d guess that this isn’t so much a black eye for Vista as it is a favor to their fan base. It’s nice to have a game run better over time on your existing hardware set and run really well on less expensive video cards. That kind of word of mouth is really good to get, as our friends at Blizzard know. It also might be a by-product of their in-progress, outsourced work on MacOS and Linux versions of the EVE Online client. Trying to bring a port up to speed is tougher with a moving target, right?
