Bungie/Microsoft Split Rumors Thicken

I wasn’t even going to post on this, as it seemed like more Internet rumormongering, but with recent validations coming from TeamXbox and GameInformer, it sounds like there could be some official parting-of-ways between Microsoft and Bungie (aka The Bungees, to our Time Magazine readers).

Well, this is certainly going to be strange as Bungie is not merely a partner with Microsoft, like Epic or Bioware, but is in actuality wholly owned and operated by Microsoft. So, for Bungie to be “leaving” Microsoft is quite odd. Certainly, any number of employees could leave Microsoft and start a new company elsewhere, but to actually have Bungie leave Microsoft is akin to Locutus spontaneously deciding to un-assimilate himself from the Borg Collective.

This sort of thing just doesn’t happen… does it? Time will tell as TeamXbox reports that an official announcement will be made before October 12th.

Could it be that they still don’t have their Legendary Editions yet?

Fact is, that Bungie is a wholly owned company of Microsoft. The company cannot leave. The employees can leave like the guy that left to form Wideload Studios (makers of Stubbs the Zombie).

Most likely after three games, there will be some that leave the company. The guys that formed Bioware were all refugees from Black Isle studios I believe, so it is not like people don’t move around in this industry.

The biggest reason I see Halo developers leaving is because most likely after some time, another Halo game will be made. It is very rare to walk away from a franchise that will sell $300-500 million dollars in sales. Money talks in this industry.

I think it’ll be a matter of a few key people leaving – not the company itself obviously. What company bigger than MS would buy Bungie? MS buys companies from smaller ones!
