Blast Works to let you make your own scrolling shooter.

Majesco will be publishing Blast Works: Build, Fuse, and Destroy for the Nintendo Wii. 1up’s got some new information on the game, but this is the first I’ve actually heard of it. The new snippet of data is all about the game’s “editor” mode, which not only lets you build your scrolling shooter, but lets you create your own objects for the game, including ships and structures and the like, by placing and stretching polygons as needed. A couple of screens round out the short article nicely.

Naturally, as a big fan of the genre, I’d love to try my hand at creating a scrolling shooter, but I can’t help but wonder if the game might be a better fit for the DS than the Wii. If they let us use the DS to create these objects within the Wii game, I think we’ll have a perfect situation for everyone.

Ooooh nice, I can’t wait to try this.

Everyone is jumping on the indie game developer bandwagaon these days.

Now, can we send around our creations to other people? Then it would TOTALLY rock.

I loved that capability in the classic PC game: RAPTOR. My first edit in the game was I turned the main ship into a flying piece of corn, partially husked.

That’s a great question, Mike. Sharing levels with your friends should be a foregone conclusion, since Elebits had that functionality near the launch of the Wii. The editor feature would be largely useless without the ability to share your creation.

Majesco confirmed when they announced the game’s delay to Q1 2008 last month that the reason for the delay was adding online leaderboards and online sharing of custom levels. Smile, your wish is granted.
