Aeropodcast #13: Protected by SecuROM

Submitted by on October 29, 2007 – 2:57 amOne Comment

We had a short crew this week on the Aeropodcast, with George and Joe manning the con this week. It was also lucky number 13 for the podcast, so that might have contributed to the short crew as well. As always, we want to see people send in tips, questions, and suggestions for the podcast. We also love to see if you can stump the hosts with some juicy gaming trivia. We do the show for the readers, so we want your input.

You can also help us out by reviewing the podcast on iTunes, which helps our iTunes ranking. Also, work us up the Digg Podcast charts by Digging the podcast. Currently, we are on the up and coming list, but we would love to get on to the top gaming podcast section. So if you like what you are hearing, make sure to do both and help a podcast out.

This week, we talked about copy protection and computer games. We looked at SecuROM and how it affected a fair number of users with Bioshock, but also how it interferes with those people that run virtual drives among other configurations. We also told the story of Starforce posting torrents to Galactic Civilizations II, because they decided to not use copy protection. Spawning installs came up as well as a way to motivate purchases, while we debated the legitimacy of the industry piracy numbers.

We also covered the release of Guitar Hero III and whether it or Rock Band will be the better game. Currently, Joe thinks that Guitar Hero III looks more refined, but the drum set could be a major selling point for Rock Band. George seems to agree that Guitar Hero III will be the bigger game of the two.

Ratchet and Clank looks like a system seller for the PS3. We discuss the rave reviews it is getting as well as how well it plays to the strength of the system. George mentions the glowing review that Tycho gave it at Penny-Arcade.com.

We also discussed the Crysis single player demo that came out a day before we recorded. Joe seems to think that the game could be the major push needed to move people to Vista and DirectX10. It looks great in only medium detail, and from the screenshots, looks top shelf on high detail. George and Joe also discuss scaling graphics engines including George’s experience with the Hellgate: London demo.

We also had some great reader questions from both morphined and Sifer2400, and we hope to have more next week. And we ended with a great trivia question that will net someone Joe’s extra gift copy of Half-Life 2 on Steam. Everyone on the staff talked him into buying the Orange Box, so he has an extra Half-Life 2 gift so he figured it would be a nice gift for someone who can answer the trivia question.

Its funny you should say is nothing like the old zelda games thats the reason im still playing it. The stylus and the mic make the puzzles more fun and taking notes on your screen is awesome and makes the game feel less repetitive IMO
