Scary, atmospheric Fatal Frame IV coming to the Wii.

So, it seems I’m still a few days behind on the news. Tecmo has handed the Fatal Frame license to Grasshopper Manufacture, the studio behind Killer 7 and the upcoming No More Heroes. This episode of Fatal Frame will be developed exclusively for Wii. I’m not sure how I overlooked this news while reading about Tecmo’s other Wii-related news at TGS, Rygar.

The game’s in good hands, and I can’t help but approve of the platform.

Fatal Frame is a survival horror franchise involving photographing ghosts. Back when the Wii Remote was first revealed and people were weighing the chances that Beyond Good & Evil or a sequel (the game’s ending set up a sequel) would appear on the Wii, I imagined the photography mechanic in the game, which was very well done in my opinion, would have you flip the Wii Remote over and hold it like a camera, using the B trigger as a shutter button. I can’t help but wonder if that will happen here.

The Fatal Frame series is absolutely one of my favorites (made a card game about it, here: http://www.fourhman.com/fatalframe ).

I am super-jazzed to hear this happening, but I hope the Grasshopper team forgoes their usual flat, angular, stylized look (as in Killer 7 and No More Heroes) and keeps the Fatal Frameish emphasis on ethereal, dark, subdued realism.
