Sure beats Mario Party!360 Gamers can tout the draw of Bioshock all they want but by the end of this week, Metroid Prime 3 might just outsell it. That’s because in it’s first week on sale, Metroid Prime 3 sold 314,157 copies. Bioshock crawled in at just over 150,000 units sold in it’s second week (562,000 units total).

While CVG.com somehow believes this, “proves that traditional “hardcore” games can still sell on the home of Wii Sports and Cooking Mama.” I think the idea is a stretch. I don’t consider Nintendo’s titles to not be “hardcore” at all. As a matter of fact, you’d have to be pretty damn hardcore to still want to swing away in yet another Legend of Zelda title. For me, it comes down to this; If Wii owners don’t buy Corruption, what the hell are we going to buy? Nintendo fans have to buy these First Party titles, otherwise why would you even own it?

Honorable mention last week? Warhawk surprisingly came in at #7 on the list with 107,000 copies sold. I’m sure that’s $59.99 boxed sales only, not including the download numbers which. based solely on the server activity, seemed pretty damn significant.

The article says: “Bioshock crawled in at just over 150,000 units sold in it’s second week (562,000 units total)”

So using my second grade math skillz:
    562,000 – 150,000 = 412,000 copies of BioShock sold the first week.

“Metroid Prime 3 sold 314,157 copies” in it’s first week.

Doesn’t that mean that BioShock sold more it’s first week than Metroid Prime 3???

Its a matter of preference. There are more games that I want currently available on Wii than I can afford. Both first and third party. I can’t imagine the triage that I’ll have to perform in the coming months, with all the awesome looking games coming out.

    @ Bill Tober
no im pretty sure its that they sold 150,000 in the first 2 weeks and the rest in the days after that

“with all the awesome looking games coming out.” yea but you could say that for all three systems.

    Enough of this math confusion.

I want to know what a ‘Used Cisco’ is and why we shouldnt just buy a ‘New Cisco’

    Enquiring minds want to know

Bill Tober is correct. Check the previous weeks to see that Bioshock sold 408,119 the first week. Wow, how could Aeropause screw this up?

    From last week:
    Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Nintendo 1 314,157 314,157
    Bioshock Take 2 2 154,269 562,388

    Week before:
    Bioshock Take 2 1 408,119 408,119

    You’re absolutely right.

James, you are nothing if not consistent in your smoldering loathing of Nintendo. Even when they do a good job on a game and sell a lot of copies, you can’t just point out that they did a good job and sold a lot of copies without saying it’s only because they suck.

I would consider myself a “Nintendo fan,” and yet I haven’t bought MOST of the games they’ve released for the Wii so far. My Wii software library is small (I only own four games not counting Wii Sports) but half those games are third party titles. If I had a wad of cash to spend on games, my next purchases would be Resident Evil 4, Elebits, and perhaps SSX Blur. No Mario Party 8. No Brain Age. No Mario Strikers. I might be representative of the Core Gamer, and I would say the majority of Nintendo’s new “casual” audience doesn’t care who made what games, they’re buying what their friends are saying is fun.

My concern is that you’re saying Metroid is selling because there’s nothing else for Wii owners to buy, but that’s simply not true. Metroid is selling because it’s a great game, and Nintendo’s done a good job of promoting it, even if it isn’t as good as Bioshock.

“even if it isn’t as good as Bioshock.”

    IMO It’s better.
