Rejoice: Guitar Hero III to Hit the PC and the Mac

Well after dealing with the passable, but still inferior Frets on Fire on the PC, it looks like Activision is getting PC port guru Aspyr to bring Guitar Hero III to the PC and the Mac. The game will sport the same song list as the consoles, but will employ a stronger and more robust multiplayer function that will allow multiplayer between the two platforms.

Several questions come to mind when I first read this story. One is whether the Xplorer Guitar Controller would work with the PC and the Mac as it does now with Frets on Fire (it works in XP, but not in Vista, just for clarification)? Also, I wonder if this means that we could see some sort of round robin type online play where you could have a room that people work their way to the top of their room, like a bracket competition. But for those that do not have a controller, will the game be sold with a controller or can they buy one off the shelf?

Well, GameDaily got a interview with the one of the developers from Aspyr and they said that the game would come with its own USB Gibson series guitar. The topic of downloadable content came up and he was a bit coy on this one. He was also a bit non-commital about whether players could import their own song collection, which I for one want to see happen.

Hopefully in the near future, we will have some more info on this game and any extras that might come the PC and Mac’s way. Maybe even the possibility of Achievements? Hopefully.

Another entry for our AeroWii if you are posting in this thread

If I’m importing my own song collection, how is anybody going to make any more money off of it? Adoy.

Hmm playing it on yuor computer, idk if my computer could even run this.

But will the mouse have enough buttons for the fretboard?

I highly doubt there will be any official song-importing, because if you import a song you also have to draw up a game map for it. However, I’m sure some enterprising hackers will construct a framework in no time that’ll allow for the creation of custom levels.

Then, my dream of shredding my way through Dream Theater’s “A Change Of Seasons” will come to pass, and make hell for anyone who dares to challenge me at it that doesn’t know that the song is over 23 minutes long. :-P

GH was meant to be played in front of a TV with friends and family.

Goose – To be honest, if you can get the game in there, people who have created thousands of songs for Frets on Fire will build songs for the game. Trust me, Stairway will be played everywhere, as will Eruption and Money for Nothing. Maybe even some Steve Vai, because that guy kicks ass on a guitar.

    Yay, contest!

I’m not sold on the PC/Mac version of this game. I need to have it hooked up to the big TV with the surround sound; I don’t rock out much in my office.

“We will be offering gamers the option to play with their keyboard and mouse or keyboard alone. With this option gamers can play Guitar Hero III “on the go” on their laptop”

I dunno how this will fly. Didn’t roughly 2 million GH knock-off flash games come out as soon as it got poplular? (“Flute Hero” comes to mind). It will be interesting to see what new dynamics they can add to the standard keyboard instead of the actual controller…

This is possibly the single greatest news I have heard in a long, long time. The reason I was even contemplating buying a 360 was for this game because every other genre is there on the PC. But now, it seems I won’t even need that personally. I cannot wait to get my hands on my first guitar hero experience.
