Capcom has recently been on a big promotional kick to get their games on the PC. Recently we have seen games like Devil May Cry 3, Onimusha 3, Resident Evil 4 and Lost Planet all come to the PC in the last year. Well the one game that is mysteriously absent from that list is Dead Rising. It has always been rumored, but nothing has been concrete. Well, now we may finally have a little more set in stone.

A Nordic distributor, Pan Vision, has a listing for Dead Rising and had a release date of Sept. 25th, 2007 in Sweden, along with other European countries. The date was pulled shortly after Pan Vision was asked questions, but they did confirm that their sources at Capcom state that the game would be coming before the end of the year.

While I think that this game could be great on the PC, one thing that Capcom has to get right are optimization and controls. With the first three games that I listed in the beginning, there is practically no mouse support in the game, at all. If you have no gamepad, you are stuck using the keyboard. Lost Planet fixed this, but they also did no optimization, as I cannot play the game except as a slideshow on a rig that can play Bioshock with full details on at 1920×1200. I have two 7800GT cards that are factory overclocked with a 4800 dual core Athlon and 4GB of RAM, but the game lags like crazy and then boots me to the menu with a “Your machine is not able to play at the current detail level” message.

I love the idea of Dead Rising coming, maybe with some extra content and maybe even Live for Windows Enabled for good measure. It would make the 5 day and 7 day survivor achievements so much easier to get to on my PC, as I could minimize the game for stretches of the game.

This is a great game but the controls on the 360 were so counter-intuitive it made a difficult game that much harder.

still, i gave up on computer games long time ago. Once i got one of those deer hunting games at Walmart for my Windows98 and it kept freezing on me. it was $10 i promised to never waste again on another damn game.
