Linux is a Naughty Word

Okay, what happens when you like Linux, and decide to change your Xbox Live gamertag motto to “Linux rules”? Well, Microsoft black flags you, that’s what. According to xbox-scene.com, Linux and Unix prompt the following response:

linux-is-bad.jpg

I can confirm this as I just tried it myself. Also, according to some xbox-scene.com forum-goers, variations on Linux such as “L I N U X” or “L inux” also are banned.

Seriously, Microsoft? You really went there, eh? Wow. Ballsy. I mean, it takes some serious testicular matter to make Linux a naughty word on Xbox Live. No good could possibly come of this. It’s like putting a scorpion in a room full of babies and then not expecting a literal crap-storm of bad publicity.

This is the kind of thing you’d expect from… I don’t know… Sony.

    “This is the kind of thing you’d expect from… I don’t know… Sony.”

    Right. Or maybe you forget that on the PlayStation 3 Sony allows you to actually install other operating systems right through the menu, specifically Linux.

    Good call dickhead.

    @DEZVOUS …

    Fanboy, much?

  • DEZVOUS

    How on earth does that make me a fanboy? Please I’d love to see you try and explain why.

    Well, I think it was meant as a joke regarding the Sony comment in the article. Primarily because of the misteps that Sony has made in their marketing.

    As for banning names…as long as they stay awy from banning the names Fairchild or CP/M, I am okay.

  • Kamusa

    Well… As far as I’ve heard the words “Microsoft” and “Windows” are banned too… Maybe not so bad after all?

    SENSATIONALISM at it’s finest.

    Umm… Yea… and you can’t do anything with it on your overpriced, electricity guzzling, noisy PS3 because they’ve locked away direct hardware access, so you can’t make use of ANY feature… not even graphics acceleration.

    I must admit: That’s a really great step SONY took there… Kudos!
