Let me unravel a tale for you.

Lately, I’ve started a new routine. I start my day by firing up my 360 and watching all of the Halo 3 trailers. I usually start with the E3 2006 announcement trailer. After watching that a few times, I then go to the E3 2007 single-player trailer. Yesterday was the first time I had noticed the Warthog with two passengers in back instead of a gun. I had read about it, but that was first time I had noticed it in the trailer.

After I’ve watched the 360 videos several times, I move to my PC and begin trawling youtube.com, gamevideos.com, and gametrailers.com in case I missed any cool Halo 3 videos. I’ve pretty much seen them all, so lately I’ve moved on to Halo 2 videos. They could be anything, machinima, gameplay videos, obnoxious teenager caught on tape. Whatever I happen to find.

I get tired of watching videos after an indeterminate number of hours, so I actually play some Halo 1 or 2 campaign missions, or maybe some Halo 2 multiplayer. I might also check my RSS feeds for any Halo 3 nuggets. There seem to be scant few right now, other than reports of more bannings, and interviews ABOUT reviews.

Has anyone read this? I don’t know what’s more pathetic, bragging about being the first to beat Halo 3, interviewing someone who’s bragging about beating Halo 3, or reading an interview of someone who’s bragging about beating Halo 3.

I, the reader, would seem to be at the bottom of that particular totem pole. Though, I may have just reached new lows in that I am now blogging about reading an interview of someone bragging about beating Halo 3.

Yikes. But that’s just how pathetic for Halo 3 I am right now. I’m out of my mind with anticipation. No more so than the droves of Harry Potter faithful that I am often wont to scoff at. But certainly not less so, either. My particular Church of Geekdom meets out at the front of the Gamestop at 12:01am on September 25th.

Here I sit, pining away the hours wishing I was playing Halo 3. And why? Certainly there is no shortage of Halo naysayers, argent detractors of the series as strident in their disdain for the Holy Ring as I am in my fervor. Well, at least there is no shortage to their volume. Am I missing something? Am I deluded in my respect for all things Halo? Some might say that I am, I suppose.

Many have said that Halo lacks meaningful story. These are the folks that were burned by Halo 2′s sudden ending, I suppose. Well, at least this Soprano is getting another chapter. The argument against Halo 2′s ending is about to evaporate. The story will be complete. An ending for some, and a beginning for others, as the fight continues in the bowels of the internet tubes.

September 25th can’t arrive quickly enough. The Brutes have me in their clutches. I must defeat them. I must Finish The Fight.

I feel your pain George! Do I what I am doing and play all those games you never got a chance to play while watching all the Halo 3 videos.
