Hot Shots Golf Open Tee Sequel to Feature Online Play

PSPFanboy noticed that Minna No Golf Portable 2, the JP version of the sequel to Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee was at the Tokyo Game Show last week. It won’t stray far from the tried-and-true popular formula of the series but will feature online play. The first game had ad-hoc wireless play only. Earlier coverage showed it’ll have 16-player online support, 12 courses, 350 character customization accessories, and will be released in Japan in December. A US release in the Spring would follow the timeline of the first Hot Shots Golf game.
I have Hot Shots Golf Fore! for the PS2 which had online play but no voice support, and spent some time playing it, but my desire to get better at it quickly cooled when I had a streak of bad luck in the game and lost points from my character’s total because of it. I can see earning just a tiny amount of points when a game goes awry, maybe even zero, but taking away hard-won points? That’s not too friendly to the folks starting out at the bottom of the skill ladder.
I’ve also picked up a very inexpensive copy of Open Tee for the PSP but spent very little time with it. At this point the only thing that would make me spend more time with it would be knowing if some or all of my unlocked items would transfer to the newer game. Unfortunately that isn’t known just yet.
