Home’s October Launch To Be Another Non-Public Beta
GamesIndustry.biz sat down with Jamie MacDonald, vice president of SCE Worldwide Studios, to talk about PlayStation Home and a couple of other things in a short interview. During the interview he notes that October won’t be the final product launch for Home.
It’s going to go to an open beta “in the next couple of months” and open doesn’t mean public, apparently. He’s not entirely sure how it’s going to work — perhaps someone else who knows better will pipe up once his comments hit the blogosphere hard — but:
An open beta will be a wider audience but it won’t be open to everybody. We haven’t worked out the exact way of doing it but it will be invites to people to ask if they want to be part of it, and then depending on what the response is, we’ll have to have some way of deciding who can and who can’t take part.
With many hopes riding on Home as a way to differentiate the PSN from Xbox Live, a delay and keeping the beta closed is not the way to show progress in this arena.
