EVE Online Adds Mining Command Ship, Mac and Linux Next
I’m still subscribed to the EVE Online newsletter even though I never subscribed to the game itself after trying out the MMO, and this week’s newsletter talks about the latest system update to their single-server solution featuring a mind-blowingly large mining super carrier capital ship. The Rorqual is billed as “The Beast That Ate The World”:
It’s not just a mining support ship, but a command vessel that will lie at the heart of extensive mining operations, serving as base, station and home to the legions that harvest the depths of space and bring its riches to the Empires.
Also announced earlier this week is that TransGaming has been contracted to produce MacOS and Linux versions of the EVE Online client software using their Cider portability engine. Currently their Cedega software does support playing the Windows version of the game on Linux, but the new clients will be built on their new Cider software to operate without needing a Cedega subscription. EA is using this same software to bring four of their recent games to MacOS.
It’s always good to see more games coming to MacOS and even Linux, so I’m all in favor of using these software engines to get them up and running quickly.
Seen on Shacknews.
