360 Rock Band Will Ship With Wired Guitar; PS3 Wireless
It’s bad enough that the upcoming Rock Band bundle will cost $200.00 but if you’re planning on owning the 360 version, you’re actually going to get short-changed on the deal. During the recent OXM podcast, Alex Rigopulos of Harmonix confirmed that unlike the PS3 bundle of Rock Band, the retail bundle for the Xbox 360 will include a WIRED guitar. Wireless guitars will be sold separately, at a healthy $79.99 a pop.
It’s pretty obvious that the ridiculous licensing cost of Microsoft’s proprietary wireless technology has forced Harmonix’ hand. The move will more than halve the cost of the licensing, similar to why the remote and infrared dongle shipped separately for the original Xbox, saving Microsoft from paying a percentage on the entire Xbox unit’s cost. In the end, 360 owners are really getting the shaft here.
If I do end up buying this one, which will be a real stretch anyway considering the individual cost is close to a freakin’ console, it’ll definitely be the PS3 version. I’m amazed that Microsoft will let this happen to such a high profile, multi-platform title.
Oh yes, please do not give me the, “real guitars are wired” garbage. Real guitars wouldn’t be plugged into the top of my wall unit.
