Warhawk Has Landed Intact

Smile!I had the pleasure of blasting my way through Warhawk for the past few days and I have to admit, I’m definitely loving it. My fears about an unstable beta coming back to haunt the full release have been quelled up to this point, I haven’t had any problems at all.

Warhawk is an excellent game and it seems PSM’s 6.5 is the lone hater for the title, with IGN and 1up ringing in with 8.8 and 8.5 scores respectively. I can’t take that 1up.com score seriously though, they’d probably give a game a 10 for a bag of peanuts right now.

If you’re on the fence about Warhawk, I give it two enthusiastic thumbs up for anyone looking for a top-notch online shoot’em up.

Oh and if you see a black Warhawk with big yellow smiley faces on it’s wings hovering down on your ass, be sure to smile for my machine guns.

I finally got the game to download and after a 6 hour marathon session I came away with very mixed views.

Its a fun game but the on ground fighting is so atrociously bad…I wonder why they even bothered. Why anyone would want to stay on the ground (other then in a turret) is beyond me. Plus the the game just looks mediocre when you are at ground level. The ground tears away at points and you can clearly see huge lines where the textures begin…I know that is a bit knit picky but it make the game look last gen.

Take to the sky and the game looks a lot better and is so much more fun to play. The controls take a while to get used to but once you do you quickly start taking other down with glee.

Even with all its downsides I still had a good deal of fun with the game but I don’t see myself playing it for more then a few months. Which is a pity because I love this type of game. I guess I can still hold out hope for a Crimson Skies seqeul.

Hit me up for a game sometime James!

I haven’t noticed any graphical shortcomings, but I’m focused on playing the game. I think it looks great, sounds wonderful, and plays in a pretty balanced way.

The way the maps scale down to smaller team sizes means the fights will still be intense.

When you’re overrun by the opposition it’s easy to get that overwhelmed and hopeless feeling when you’re on foot or even in a vehicle. I fall prey to it on occasion, and when I’m getting repeatedly stomped your teammates will usually focus on the insurgent forces and give you a hand without having to ask for it.

And that’s another thing. Even though it supports voice people seem to do just fine working together without having to say a word.

I can’t overstate how great the control scheme is too. The ability to quickly switch weapons with just a tap of the D-pad is so nice. Perfect for switching to the knife when your opponent is trying to hoof it past you so you can gut’em like a fish.

    SIX HOURS! Nice!

I’ve never seen any texture issues at all, although I’m playing on an HD set. Are you playing on an SD or HDTV?

I sent you a friend invite last night before I signed off, so the three of us can get into a game.

The texture issues are there and they are really bad in some areas. You can only see them on foot in specific maps but luckily I never spend long on the ground.

This must be a love it or hate it game because I just let my brother play the game and I hyped it as great game to him…he said he would never trust my judgment about a game again. He played for a half hour and left. Oh well more for me I guess!
