So it looks like the PS3 and PC are going to be kissing cousins in regards to Stranglehold as the PC version has now been delayed to the 18th of September. That is the same day as the PS3 release, except they get the movie with their pre-order. The 360 version is still on track for release next month, but no word as to what the delay is all about.

My take on it is that they are having some optimization issues with the UE 3.0 engine. Those rumored minimum specs did not go over well, and I think there are issues with Midway and trying to get the game to run smooth on average hardware. I have no proof of it, but it just seems strange that they would push it back another two weeks on the PC unless they were having issues.

UPDATE: The now final release dates put the 360 version on September 5th, the PC version on September 18th, and the PS3 now on September 25th. Not sure why the PS3 version was pushed back, but maybe the game will finally come out.

Man, I guess the PC must be a hard development platform now too! (takes off Bill Gates hat).

The PC has always been a fun beast to tackle for developers since there’s such a huge gamut of possible to hardware to run on and wanting to get the game into as many people’s hands as possible. It’s kind of nice to see that instead of just upping the requirements on the box, they’re trying to get it to run better.

But of course, this is the reason that I no longer appreciate gaming on the PC anymore. Constantly chasing requirements to get the games to run smooth is too much of a pain in the ass when all I want to do is sit down and play a game.
