Tekken 5 DR Online Connects With Japan Today
Tekken 5 DR Online has made it’s way to the Japanese and Hong Kong PSN today. According to TZ, the US release is expected later this month, I’m guessing August 16th. Tekkenzaibatsu.com has a very brief review up from SDTekken.
The positive notes are that the online play isn’t limited to your particular region, allowing Japanese players to compete against US and UK players. I can’t exactly confirm this, considering everyone playing the game at this point is playing the Japanese and Hong Kong version, so technically the American players playing Japanese players are still running the Japanese version of the game. All signs do point that it will allow international play and I do recall reading that Namco Bandai confirmed that to be the case in the past.
Based on your connection, rampant lag doesn’t seem to be an issue either. I’m still sure it’ll be a problem with many gamers; I’m convinced most players don’t understand (or simply don’t care) how gimped their network really is before deciding to host games. The test for me will be when I lose a match because my opponent’s network connection is sub-par.
As I said, the review is about as basic as they come but for a Tekken fan, it’s definitely worth a read. At the very least it will keep you sane until it Tekken DR Online drop-kicks the US. If anyone else is playing, let me know.
