PAX07 follow-up: Heavenly Sword Causes Feelings of ‘Meh’

Not owning a PS3, I’ve not been able to play the Heavenly Sword demo, so PAX presented the perfect oppurtunity to check this game out first hand. Unfortunately, I was not blown away.

The graphics were absolutely fantastic, however. That simply cannot be overstated. Colors looked bright and crisp. The environments were open and majestic. The models looked great. I just wish there were better gameplay.

Now, I’ve never played God of War, so maybe these games are an acquired taste. As a partial fan of the Dynasty Warriors series and someone who liked Ninety-Nine Nights, I found myself looking for something deeper than just spinning around slicing guys in half. There was no strategic over-game like Dynasty Warriors, but at the same time, I didn’t really feel like there was much tactically-speaking, either. Mash buttons until stuff dies. Whatever. Now, it could have a really AWESOME story, but with the demo being so short, who can say.
