PAX 07 Follow-up: Culdcept Saga
PAX 07 has been officially over for a few days now, and since I’ve had a few days to recuperate, I thought I’d share the experience I had demoing the Culdcept Saga game which is slated to come out in Q1 2008 for Xbox 360.
For those of you not familiar with Culdcept Saga, this game was originally released for the PS2 and quickly became one of those ultra-rare titles. I asked several PAX-goers what they thought, and most people were pleased with the much improved graphics over the PS2 version.
A Namco-Bandai rep also informed me that the final game will feature over 500 cards. When asked about downloadable content, he noted that no decisions had been made regarding that, yet.
Playing Culdcept Saga, for an admitted tabletop gaming geek, was pretty fun. Being able to play over Xbox Live is going to add a lot of value to this title, and the impromptu tournament that they had set up at PAX07 was an excellent means of creating an environment that played to the strengths of Culdcept Saga. Those strengths will appeal to those who enjoy CCG’s and other tabletop ventures.
If you don’t like cards, turns, boards or other trappings of the tabletop arena, you might not find a lot to like with Culdcept Saga. However, give it a rent, and you may end up enjoying it anyway.
